GCSE PE aims to provide a broad, coherent and practical curriculum that encourages learners to be inspired , motivated and challenged. It will equip learners with the knowledge, understanding, skills and values to develop and maintain their performance in physical activities and understand the benefits to health, fitness and well-being.
The GCSE PE course will:
The GCSE PE course is assessed in the following four modules:
Physical Factors Affecting Performance (30%)
· Applied anatomy and physiology
· Physical training
Socio-Cultural Issues and Sports Psychology (30%)
· Socio-cultural influences
· Sports psychology
· Health, fitness and well-being
Practical Performances (30%)
· Assesses core and advanced skills in three activities taken from the approved list
· One from the ‘individual’ list
· One from the ‘team’ list
· One from either list
Analysis and Evaluation (10%)
· This component draws upon the knowledge, understanding and skills a student has learnt and enables them to analyse and evaluate their own or a peer’s performance in one activity.
· 2 x 1 hour, 60 mark, external examinations (60%)
· Practical assessment in three different sports (30%)
· Written analysis produced under controlled conditions (10%)
· A Level PE
· Cambridge National Level 3 Sports Studies/Sports Science
· VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy
· BTEC Level 3 NED in Esports, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship
· BTEC Level 3 NED in Sports Coaching and Development
· BTEC Level 3 NED in Sport and Exercise Science
· Level 3 Diploma in Leadership and Community Coaching
