We had a busy weekend at Ivanhoe completing the training for DofE. On the Saturday, all groups learned all the skills needed to go on expedition successfully. They learned the skills needed for everything from first aid, camp craft skills and cooking to navigation and packing rucksacks safely.
The groups then put some of these new skills in to practice as they camped overnight and then went on a walk on the Sunday to put our navigation skills to the test. All groups navigated a 10km route from Ashby to the north of Ashby around Smisby and then back around to Ashby. This allowed them put in to practice skills like reading maps, pacing and following the countryside code.
The weather was lovely, everyone involved had a great time and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the DofE groups and the Ivanhoe staff accompanying them. The groups did Ivanhoe really proud and we got feedback from the instructors running the training and the public to say how polite and pleasant our young people had been.
The Ivanhoe values of being ambitious, determined, respectful and of caring for one another shone through the whole weekend.
Overall, a resounding success and we are all really looking forward to the expeditions in the coming weeks and months.
