Congratulations on Silver Final DOFE Expedition

We had our Silver Qualifying DofE expedition over the weekend and it was a resounding success. The expedition began in stunning woodlands on the outskirts of the Peak District National Park.

Day one involved walking from the outskirts of the Peaks in to the valleys and the students completed the challenge of navigating the walk and the landscape with a fantastic attitude and all arrived back to camp in good spirits. They then set up camp in Pindale, cooked their evening meal and spent some time together in the great outdoors.

On day two the groups walked from Pindale to Edale which involved climbing the peak of Mam Tor in challenging conditions. The weather wasn't particularly kind but the groups persevered showing true determination and arrived to Edale and set up camp despite the weather. Nothing could dampen their spirits which remained high on camp and all went smoothly for the evening of day two with a game of cards in the minibus to keep them occupied. The expedition was rounded off on day three by walking from Edale to Castleton and the weather was great on the final day. All groups arrived to Castleton having passed their expedition element of the DofE award.

The instructors from Premier Expeditions who were leading the groups repeatedly told us how wonderful our young people at Ivanhoe are and that their commitment, attitudes towards each other and adults and the brilliant way they conduct themselves when out and about mixing with members of the public really stand out. The 'Ivanhoe Way' of being ambitious, determined, respectful and caring for each other really shone through throughout the whole expedition.

There was even time for some staff learning as Miss Gee benefitted from the expertise of Mr. Malkin and Mrs. Lane learning all things grid references and bearings as at Ivanhoe, we believe in lifelong learning.
