Dear Parent/Carer
It’s Not Ok Campaign – Focus for this half term
I am writing to tell you that for 2023-24, we will be working as part of LiFE Multi-Academy Trust and our It’s Not Ok campaign. We are collaborating with all schools across our trust to raise the profile of keysafeguarding issues. Our initial focus will be on Sexual Harassment and Abuse.
In June 2021, Ofsted were asked to report on a rapid review of sexual abuse in schools and colleges. There were some key findings, including:
“Sexual harassment and online sexual abuse are so commonplace that young people see no point in
reporting incidents. These behaviours have become normalised.”
You can find more information on the findings from the review and recommendations for schools below:
https://learning.nspcc.org.uk/research-resources/2021/ofsted-review-sexual-abuse-in-schoolscolleges-caspar-briefing
Whilst our schools responded to the findings back in 2021, and we have a zero tolerance approach tothis, we feel it is important to revisit our practice and have decided to add this as a key feature to our campaign.
We will carry out a number of activities in addition to our normal safeguarding practice which will include discussions with students, surveys, reviewing our practice and additional assemblies. Students who are Year 10 and 11 will receive a survey and will be part of our small group discussions. We will also be working with our younger students more sensitively and in particular reviewing our Personal Development Curriculum and what we are teaching them.
If for any reason you do not wish for your child to be selected to be part of the Year 10 and 11 small group discussion, please do not hesitate to contact me at e.boussida@ivanhoe.co.uk
Please look out for further updates on this campaign throughout the year and we encourage you to talk to
your children about these issues at home. We have also signposted where you can access further support
and information below:
Yours sincerely
