Next half term we be launching our brand new ECO-CLUB.
This is a fantastic opportunity for students interested in the issues of the environment, sustainability, reducing food waste, recycling, ecology, being a mindful consumer and growing and planting to become involved in supporting our school community and our local community to develop our new Eco club.
If your child is a budding Eco warrior ask them to see Mrs Thomas for more details.
We have been successful in securing some trees and saplings to set in the local area and school grounds to improve our environment and well-being for all. We also hope to develop the existing school garden to enable us to grow some foods that can be used within our school food room which would reduce the carbon footprint and number of food miles. These topics will also be explored within food and nutrition lessons too. It is hoped that we can plant spring bulbs in the next few weeks too within the locality.
There are small things that we can all do to help to preserve and protect the environment. In Food and Nutrition we provide foil containers for food to travel home in, although students are actively encouraged to bring in reusable containers from home to reduce the need for single use items that will be thrown away. This would be a great place to start in supporting our environment.
As we approach Autumn and the harvest of pumpkins are plentiful it is worth remembering that pumpkins contribute to a massive amount of food waste. Why not try out some seasonal recipes that make good use of this food instead of it being thrown away after Halloween? Further information and recipes will follow- watch this space!
