December 2021

Dear Year 9 student and parents,

We are so looking forward to welcoming you to Ashby School in August 2022 to complete your Key Stage 4 studies.

As you know, you are able to choose some of the subjects you wish to study so, to help you make these choices, we are running an Options Evening online on Wednesday 12 January 2022. The evening, which will be hosted on Microsoft Teams, will start at 6pm with a presentation about our options process. This will answer questions like ‘How many options can I choose?’, ‘What combinations of options can I do?’, ‘What qualifications do I get from different subjects?’ and ‘What should I think about when choosing my options?’.

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions using the chat function which will be referenced within the presentation where appropriate. This presentation will be supported by our options booklet which will be available on our website from Friday 17 December and also through our online subject pages. We strongly encourage you to look at these resources prior to the presentation.

We anticipate the event will last for around 45 minutes. If you are unable to attend this presentation, a recording will be made available online shortly after 12 January.

We appreciate that some of you will have individual questions around particular subjects, combinations of subjects, support for individual needs or routes for certain career paths and that it will be not be possible or appropriate to address all of these during the presentation.

In these cases, we will be asking parents or students to send their questions to our special email address at ks4options@ashbyschool.org.uk before Sunday 16 January. We will either respond to these questions by email where we are able to, or arrange a conversation with a member of staff remotely who will be able to assist you on 19 January between 5pm and 7pm. Please note, this email address will not be monitored after 16 January.

Following the event on 12 January, our online options form will be available on our website. The deadline for submitting this form is Monday 24 January 2022. Please note, late forms may impact on the options available to you as forms received by the deadline will be processed first.

We look forward to seeing you online on 12 January. Until then, may I take this opportunity to wish you a very restful Christmas break.

Yours sincerely
Dr J Mellor
